The Western Cape Department of Education has issued final written warnings and fines to three teachers for social media posts in separate incidents.
Department spokesperson Bronagh Hammond says that one of the incidents occurred in 2025, while the other two happened this year.
She confirms that each case was considered on its individual merits, in line with labour and disciplinary processes.
“The Western Cape government has a social media code of conduct that applies to every employee across all provincial government departments this also applies to educators.”
“We absolutely respect an employee’s freedom of expression and their private life but that right does not mean public conduct can never have employment consequences , particulary when it brings an employer into disrepute . We have dealt with three such cases involving educators and social media.”
