SAPS MEMBER ARRESTED AFTER SHOOTING INCIDENT AT MAJOLA POLICE STATION

A 24-year-old Constable stationed at Majola Police Station has been arrested following a shooting incident at the station on Monday, 25 May 2026.

Over the weekend on Saturday, 23 May and Sunday, 24 May, the Constable allegedly stabbed two different men during separate quarrels, forcibly took two private vehicles (one was crashed, while the other rolled into water), and fled both scenes.

No cases were reported at the time.

On Monday, the two victims came to the station to discuss damages.

During the meeting, the Constable allegedly forced open a colleague’s safe, took her firearm, and opened fire on management and the complainants.

The Acting Station Commander was shot below the left arm and is in a stable condition.

A shoot-out with other members followed. The suspect fled into nearby bushes but was later arrested.

The Constable faces charges including four counts of attempted murder, theft of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, as well as charges relating to the weekend stabbings and vehicle thefts. The suspect will appear in the Port St Johns Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape, Lieutenant General Vuyisile Ncata, strongly condemned the incident.

“This conduct is criminal and a betrayal of the SAPS uniform. Any member who breaks the law will be arrested and face justice like any other suspect. No leniency,” remarked Lieutenant General Ncata.
