eThekwini turns into a campaign ground this weekend. The Economic Freedom Fighters holds its KwaZulu-Natal manifesto launch at JL Dube Stadium in Inanda on Saturday, the Inkatha Freedom Party launches its own manifesto at Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu on Sunday, and the African National Congress keeps working the province in between.

As eNCA reported on 19 September, the EFF launch lands in Inanda, an area where the MK Party holds a stronghold. The same stadium is booked on the same day for a free-entry maskanda concert hosted by media personality Ngizwe Mchunu. Supporters of the EFF and of Mchunu clashed on Friday, and police intervened.

For a reader outside the province, the weekend looks like three separate events. For anyone who lives in eThekwini it reads as a single contest being fought street by street.

The EFF has chosen Inanda deliberately.
