Multiple School Children have sustained injuries following a taxi crash on the P100 near Canelands in the Verulam area
Multiple scholars have sustained injuries following a taxi crash on the P100 near Canelands in the Verulam area on Thursday morning.
Emergency services from KZN VIP Emergency Medical Services, together with multiple other emergency and law enforcement agencies, were dispatched to the scene after reports of a taxi transporting school children overturned.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel found that the taxi had overturned on the roadway, leaving multiple scholars injured. It is believed that the poor condition of the roadway may have contributed to the collision after the taxi allegedly struck a pothole, resulting in a tyre burst before the vehicle lost control and overturned.
The condition of the roadway also made access to the scene difficult for emergency vehicles responding to the incident.
All patients were carefully triaged on scene before receiving medical treatment. KZN VIP ambulances transported the injured scholars to various medical facilities for further medical care and assessment.
Additional ambulances and resources were dispatched due to the incident being declared a mass casualty incident. The exact circumstances leading up to the collision will form part of further investigations.
All emergency services were in attendance.
