Jewellery Store Robbery: Verulam CBD – KZN

Cash and jewellery were stolen during a robbery at a business on Wick Street in the Verulam CBD – KZN a short while ago.

The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre received a call for assistance at approximately 11:09 regarding a business robbery in progress.

Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival interviewed the 69 year old Businessman. He explained that two (2) armed men entered the store and threatened him with firearms. The perpetrators assaulted the victim and restrained his hands with cable ties before forcing him to unlock a safe.

This changed for the robbers when they thought everything was going well as they left but meet resistance from the shop owner who shot one of them and from the look of things, he did not survive it as he was seen been carried by his fellow suspects.

An undisclosed amount of cash and jewellery was stolen before the robbers fled the scene. The victim managed to free himself from the restraints prior to the arrival of Reaction Officers.

Witnesses alleged that two (2) additional accomplices remained outside the premises and monitored the area for approaching First Responders. It could not be confirmed what vehicle was used in the getaway.

The businessman sustained minor injuries during the incident.
