Cape Town was rocked by a wave of violent crime yet again over the weekend of 13 to 15 June, with a series of shootings and stabbings leaving at least 12 people dead and 10 others wounded across several communities.

The violence began on Friday in Mitchells Plain, where two people were wounded in a shooting in Cricket Crescent, Beacon Valley. Later the same day, another drive-by shooting in 5th Avenue, Eastridge, left two more people injured.

On Saturday, the bloodshed intensified. In Montrose Park, Mitchells Plain, the body of a man riddled with bullet wounds was discovered on a field in Tania Crescent.

In Bishop Lavis, a man was shot and killed in Tafelberg Road, while in Happy Valley, Blackheath, two people were gunned down in Hartstraat. Another man was killed in a shooting at the Sasol garage in Ottery Road, Ottery.

Delft also recorded a double murder after two people were shot and killed in Osmabeet Street.

In Belhar, a person was stabbed to death in Aandblom Street. In Parkwood, a man and woman survived after being shot and wounded at the intersection of Blackbird Avenue and Acacia Road.

Khayelitsha experienced one of the deadliest incidents of the weekend when three people were shot and killed in Pama Road on Saturday evening. In Leonsdale, Elsies River, two more people were wounded in a shooting in 12th Avenue.

The violence continued into Sunday.

In Woodstock, a man was shot and critically wounded in Bromwell Street, while in Lotus River, a man was shot and killed in Raymond Circle.

In Hanover Park, a boy was wounded in a shooting in Lomond Court.

In total, authorities confirmed 12 fatalities and 10 injuries over the weekend. However, with several victims reportedly in critical condition, fears remain that the death toll could increase.
