The body of a five-year-old child was retrieved from the Mutale River
Police in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, have confirmed the tragic discovery of the body of a five-year-old child who was reported missing at Makonde village (Shadani).
The child, identified as Nndwaasiyashu Tambani (5), was reported #missing on Saturday, 02 May 2026 at around 13:00. It is alleged that the mother of the child was at home when the child, who had been asleep in another room, went missing.
A search operation was immediately launched involving members of the South African Police Service in Thohoyandou, Emergency Medical Services Search and Rescue teams, and SAPS Water Wing, as well as community members.
During the search, the child was tragically found floating in the Mutale River. The body was recovered and handed over to the police.
Police investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident
