Just In: Top ANC Mayor in Serious, Two Dead After
A residence belonging to the mayor of Lesedi local municipality in Gauteng has been burnt down allegedly by protesters over a water crisis. A peaceful protest by the residents of Ratanda in
Heidelberg turned violent after police fired rubber bullets at the protesters, injuring other people. This comes after the residents accused the municipality of neglecting the residents due to water crises in Ratanda.
The residents of Ratanda have had no running water for a month, which led the residents to protest, blocking several roads with burning tyres and rocks in the area.
After the mayor, Mcebise Nkosi, addressed the residents, the house was torched. Two people who were shot by the police during the protest died from their injuries, fuelling the unrest in the area.
