Police needs your help with catching this escaped suspect

POLICE SEEK PUBLIC ASSISTANCE TO TRACE ESCAPED SUSPECT FROM LAWFUL CUSTODY

Sasolburg Detectives are appealing to the public for assistance in tracing a 37-year-old suspect who escaped from lawful custody while receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.

It is alleged that on Thursday, 20 August 2026, the suspect, identified as Peter Nkosi, went to the residence of his former girlfriend in Zamdela and allegedly broke open the door. He allegedly assaulted the victim before members of the community intervened and assisted her. The community members apprehended the suspect and contacted the police.

The suspect was arrested for house robbery. He was later transported to hospital for medical attention, where police members were deployed to keep guard over him while he was receiving treatment.

On Saturday, 22 August 2026, the suspect was visited by a few of his friends at the hospital. The visitors brought clothes for him. Later that day, at approximately 15:10, the police members guarding the suspect went to the bathroom. The suspect allegedly took the opportunity to escape from lawful custody.

The suspect is known to be from Mpumalanga and has three pending cases against him, namely attempted murder, house robbery and escape from lawful custody.

The suspect is considered dangerous, and members of the public are urged not to approach or confront him.
