Footballer’s deadly Tembisa crash: victim’s mom rejects Shaun Mogaila’s plea
The mother of nine-year-old Gomolemo Mavimbela, who was tragically killed in a collision involving former Sekhukhune United footballer Shaun Mogaila, has officially rejected a plea deal proposed by the player.
The sentence proposed by Mogaila in exchange for a guilty plea was shockingly inappropriate given the severity of the incident and the lasting trauma inflicted upon the families involved.
The incident, which occurred on Andrew Mapheto Road in Tembisa in October 2024, resulted in the death of young Gomolemo and left another child, Thando, with severe injuries. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has subsequently rejected the proposed agreement, moving the case toward a full trial.
Legal representatives for the victims’ families, supported by AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit, have maintained that the proposed terms failed to account for the gravity of the loss. The court proceedings are expected to continue as the state prepares for trial.
