The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have come out in strong defense of their leader, Julius Malema, as AfriForum continues its efforts to pursue a criminal prosecution against him for crimen injuria.

The case stems from remarks made by Malema regarding a former school principal, whom he publicly accused of rape. AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit has been instrumental in pushing for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to proceed with the charges, arguing that the accusations were false and defamatory.

The EFF maintains that Malema’s comments were part of his political discourse and that the legal action is a targeted attempt to silence him and undermine the party’s influence.

AfriForum, however, insists that the law must take its course, stating that no individual, regardless of their political standing, is above the law when it comes to damaging the reputation of others through unsubstantiated criminal allegations.

As the legal battle unfolds, the EFF has vowed to support Malema throughout the proceedings, framing the prosecution as a politically motivated attack by a group they characterize as representing minority interests against the interests of the broader South African public.
