Da Cruz: What Chiefs needs to go top

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando da Cruz has opened up on what his side needs to stay among the chasing pack in the Betway Premiership ahead of their upcoming encounter against Siwelele.

Chiefs have had mixed results in the Premiership, with two wins and two draws so far, as they came from behind twice to salvage a 2-2 draw against Richards Bay this past Saturday.

Even though Amakhosi find themselves lying third in the standings with eight points, the majority of their supporters were left disappointed and fuming after the draw against The Natal Rich Boyz, as they lost some early ground to pace-setters, rivals Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Speaking to the media at the club’s headquarters in Naturena on Wednesday, da Cruz suggested that he believes they could have had a maximum of 12 points but were unfortunate to drop two points, in each of the draws against the KwaZulu-Natal side and Sundowns.

“When we play games, we always want to win. Nobody expected us to have 12 points, in the two draws we lost four points, because against Mamelodi (Sundowns) and Richards Bay we lost four points, because for me we could have won these games,” da Cruz said.

The former AS FAR head coach also looked ahead of their league clash against Siwelele on Sunday evening at Dobsonville Stadium and revealed what they need to stay among the top teams in the league.

“We’re respectful about Siwelele, because this championship is very hard, it’s one of the best championships in Africa, so we respect all our opponents, it will be a tough game,” da Cruz said.

“But also we continue on our way in possession, we need to be more killer in the final third (and) we also need to correct our mistakes to be sure to stay in the top of the league,” the French coach added.
