The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have responded to AfriForum’s announcement that it will pursue a private prosecution against party leader Julius Malema for crimen injuria.

The EFF views this as a desperate attempt by a lobby group to use the legal system to silence political opposition and intimidate our leadership.

The case stems from comments made by Malema regarding an Eastern Cape school principal, whom he publicly accused of rape. AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit has been instrumental in pushing for the charges, arguing that the accusations were false and defamatory.

We will not be intimidated by AfriForum’s tactics. They are obsessed with Julius Malema and will stop at nothing to try and destroy him, but they will fail.

The EFF maintains that Malema was acting in the interest of the public and the protection of vulnerable children when he made the statements. The party has vowed to defend the matter vigorously in court.
