Brave Saps Officers Takes Out A Hijacking Syndicate
Six suspects have been arrested following a coordinated intelligence-led operation targeting a truck and delivery van hijacking syndicate believed to be operating across Gauteng and neighbouring provinces.
The operation, conducted on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, in the Krugersdorp and Tarlton areas, involved SAPS Crime Intelligence, Gauteng Tactical Response Team (TRT), Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, SAPS DPC Tracking Team, CAP Specialised Operations and Tracker Connect.
Authorities acted on intelligence indicating that the syndicate was using a BMW 1 Series and a Jetour Dashing SUV to carry out hijackings.
During surveillance on the R24 in Tarlton, officers spotted the two vehicles allegedly attempting to stop a truck using blue lights, a tactic often employed by criminals impersonating law enforcement officials.
The operational plan was immediately executed, resulting in both vehicles being intercepted and all six occupants arrested.
Three suspects were found in each vehicle.
A number of items linked to the alleged hijacking operation were seized, including blue lights, a signal-jamming device, handcuff-style cable ties believed to be used to restrain victims, multiple sets of false registration plates and several cellphones.
The BMW and Jetour SUV were also confiscated as they were allegedly used in the commission of crimes.
Police believe the suspects may be connected to a large number of truck and delivery vehicle hijackings across the region.
The suspects remain in custody while further investigations continue to establish the full extent of the syndicate’s activities and identify additional cases linked to the group.
