Bafana Bafana winger Thapelo Maseko has officially bid farewell to Mamelodi Sundowns after completing a permanent transfer to Danish powerhouse FC Copenhagen.

Maseko was unveiled on Monday as the latest signing by the Danish giants following his exit from Sundowns.

Taking to his Instagram account, the 22-year-old speedster shared an emotional goodbye message to Masandawana, thanking the club, management, and supporters for the unforgettable memories and the opportunity to grow.

“A chapter of my life I’ll never forget,” Maseko wrote.

“Thank you, Mamelodi Sundowns for the memories… the lessons… the opportunities and for giving me a place I could call home.

“To everyone who believed in me and supported me throughout this journey… I’ll forever be grateful.

“It’s time for a new chapter, but the memories will stay with me forever.

The highly-rated attacker secured his dream move to Europe after explicitly informing Chloorkop management of his strong desire to test himself abroad.

The explosive winger departs Chloorkop following a successful spell, having initially joined the Brazilians from rivals SuperSport United in July 2023.

During his tenure under the yellow banner, Maseko established himself as a potent attacking threat, making 45 appearances across all competitions while contributing three goals and an assist.

His consistent displays subsequently solidified his place in the national team setup, attracting significant scouting interest from overseas suitors.

The blockbuster move comes hot on the heels of Maseko’s highly impressive campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with South Africa.

The direct winger caught the eye of international scouts on the global stage, most notably netting a historic winning goal against South Korea to propel Bafana Bafana into the knockout rounds.

He now becomes the latest South African to link up with the 16-time Danish Superliga champions, following in the footsteps of legendary compatriot Sibusiso Zuma.
