The Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (Aarto) will now issue fines electronically to motorists who contravened road laws. This will mean that motorists can no longer claim to not have received a notice because it was not physically delivered.
Meanwhile, Aarto says old fines remain applicable and must be paid while failure to act can result in demerit points, suspension, or even cancellation of a driver’s licence.
Once a motorist accumulates 15 points, the only way to recover is to avoid further infringements.
Fines 4U Owner, Cornelia van Niekerk urges motorists to familiarise themselves with the new Aarto law.
“Acknowledge the new Aarto Act. It’s very important, and it’s all over and the gazette you can download and you can know what is outstanding. A lot of people now run, and they want to go and pay all the fines outstanding. You must make sure what is really outstanding,” says van Niekerk.
