Tshwane Mayor Leads Disconnection Operation Over Unpaid Debts
In a recent announcement, the Mayor of City Tshwane, Nasiphi Moya, highlighted the City’s ongoing efforts to recover outstanding debts. The second stop of their disconnection operation took place at a building owned by the Department of Public Works in the Pretoria Central Business District (CBD).
The property in question houses the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), and it has reportedly accrued a debt of R470,000 to the City. This operation is part of a broader strategy by the City to ensure that all entities, public and private, meet their financial obligations to municipal services.
Mayor Moya stated that these actions are necessary to maintain the integrity of City services and to address financial shortfalls that impact the community at large. The disconnection exercise reveals the City’s commitment to reclaiming funds owed, especially from significant government-owned facilities that are expected to contribute to municipal revenue.
The City of Tshwane’s approach emphasizes accountability, ensuring that even government entities adhere to their service payment requirements. Residents have welcomed these initiatives, hoping that it will lead to improved service delivery and a more financially stable local government.
As the City continues its recovery efforts, officials will be monitoring the situation and may implement further actions against entities that fail to comply with their financial responsibilities.
