Chiefs Still Keeping Maxwele Option Open?
Ayabulela Maxwele during the Betway Premiership match between Golden Arrows and Chippa United
Kaizer Chiefs’ reported interest in Golden Arrows attacker Ayabulela Maxwele may not have disappeared completely, with indications that the Glamour Boys are still looking to strengthen their attacking department before the transfer window closes.
Earlier reports in local media pointed to strong interest from Chiefs in the promising attacker, with suggestions that Arrows might have been aware of their pursuit, although no deal has materialised at this stage.
For now, however, Maxwele appears to remain in the plans at Abafana Bes’thende, having featured in their opening Betway Premiership fixture of the season, which ended in a goalless draw against Chippa United at the weekend.
The Siya crew understands that while the situation has gone quiet in recent weeks, the possibility of Chiefs revisiting their interest cannot be completely ruled out as the club continues to assess options in the market.
Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz recently made it clear that bolstering the team’s attack remains a priority.
Ahead of the start of the new season, the French tactician indicated that he had asked the club’s management to recruit four players in attacking positions – a striker, two wingers and an attacking midfielder – to give his side greater variety in the final third and make them less predictable going forward.
Since then, Amakhosi have strengthened the squad with the signing of winger Langelihle Phili from Stellenbosch FC, adding him to the earlier arrivals of defensive midfielder Adolf Bitegeko, defender Thabo Moloisane and goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner.
However, with Da Cruz having identified multiple attacking positions for reinforcement, there could still be room for further additions before the transfer window shuts.
Whether that eventually brings Chiefs back into the conversation for Maxwele remains to be seen, but the club’s search for greater firepower appears to be ongoing.
