Pirates Update As Technical Team Takes Shape
Mxolisi Mngomezulu and Abdeslam Ouaddou during the CAF Champions League second preliminary round first leg match between African Stars and Orlando Pirates
Mxolisi Mngomezulu is expected to continue working with the Orlando Pirates first team as part of Abdeslam Ouaddou’s technical setup, following the departure of assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi.
The Buccaneers confirmed on Thursday that Ncikazi would leave the club to take up a head coaching position in the PSL.

He has since been unveiled as the new head coach of Lamontville Golden Arrows, returning to the club he previously led before joining Pirates in 2021.
Mngomezulu has been involved in the first-team environment in recent months, providing technical support to Ouaddou alongside assistant coach Rayaan Jacobs.
His involvement was particularly noticeable in August, when Ncikazi was given time away from his duties to focus on his recovery following knee surgery. During that period, Mngomezulu stepped up to assist the first team.
A familiar figure within Pirates’ development structures, Mngomezulu has built his reputation through his work with young players. His contribution to the senior setup has also received recognition from Ouaddou.
In recent matchday team listings, Mngomezulu’s designation appeared as “Technical Staff”, while Jacobs was listed as assistant coach. The club’s official technical team page on the Pirates website also lists Mngomezulu as an analyst.
With Ncikazi now having departed, Mngomezulu is understood to be set to continue contributing to the first team.

However, Pirates have yet to announce any formal change to his title or confirm a new appointment to fill Ncikazi’s assistant coaching position.
The Buccaneers are preparing for the next phase of their campaign under Ouaddou, with the composition of the technical team likely to attract further attention following Ncikazi’s exit.
