Cyril Ramaphosa breaks silence on General Fannie Masemola; SA questions his continued suspension
National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola remains suspended after charges against him were withdrawn.
The NPA’s decision has been noted, and the matter is under consideration. Have the patience to wait for an outcome.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has addressed the ongoing suspension of National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola, stating that the matter is currently under consideration following the withdrawal of criminal charges against him. The South African Police Union (SAPU) and the South African Communist Party (SACP) have both intensified calls for Masemola’s immediate reinstatement, citing the urgent need for leadership amid the country’s high crime rates. Masemola was originally placed on precautionary suspension in April 2026 following allegations related to the irregular awarding of a police health-services contract.
