UDM’s mayoral candidate says Buffalo City Metro in state of despair – SABC News – Breaking news, special reports, world, business, sport coverage of all South African current events. Africa’s news leader.
United Democratic Movement (UDM) Deputy President and Buffalo City Metro Mayoral Candidate for the party, Nqabayomzi Kwankwa, says he will embark on a fact-finding mission to establish if any scrupulous act occurred in the revitalisation projects for the Dimbaza Industrial Park just outside Qonce in the Eastern Cape.
Kwankwa was on a campaign trail in Qonce in the Buffalo City Metro, visiting various villages including the CBD.
He says the Metro is in a dilapidated state, with key economic development zones left in deep despair.
“I need to now go back and find out as to how far did the national government go in terms of some of the initiatives they put in place. I set in the finance committee in 2017, which demarcated this as an industrial development zone. There were quite a number of them, earmarks, rather, across the country. And now, what we would probably have to ask for is a status report from the current minister of finance to say, what has been done, how much of those resources, which were going to be allocated at that point in time, have been utilised here, and what is the progress in terms of trying to refer or vitalise this area.”
