WATCH | Man who threatened to ‘shoot’ women at Sandton eatery granted bail
A man who threatened to shoot three women in a viral video after one allegedly rejected his advances at a Sandton restaurant has been released on R15,000 bail.
Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzinganyama appeared before the Randburg magistrate’s court on Thursday after being arrested in connection with the incident.
In the footage, Mudzinganyama is seen and heard saying: “I wanted to correct you, she is telling me to leave. I will put a bullet in you now, you understand. I will murder you now and walk. You can say ‘no’ in a nice, respectful way.
“Don’t ever. I am a wealthy man, you guys are poor ladies. You can record me. I will put a bullet in all of you.”

Mudzinganyama has since apologised for the incident, which reportedly took place at Vlamo Restaurant in Sandton Gate.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Kazier Kganyago said the businessman was arrested on September 20 and initially released on a warning on a charge of intimidation.
“Following further investigations, including the securing of witness statements and video footage, the state has brought additional charges against him,” he said.
“The accused is facing three counts of intimidation, three counts of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, three counts of crimen injuria and one count of fraud.”
Kganyago said it is alleged Mudzinganyama entered the women’s powder room and demanded to take photographs of one of the witnesses.
“The state further alleges he threatened three witnesses with violence and death. He is also facing three counts of crimen injuria relating to allegations that he insulted the complainants and impaired their dignity by calling them a derogatory name in the presence of others,” he said.
Kganyago said the fraud charges relate to allegations that Mudzinganyama misrepresented himself to the witness as the owner of the restaurant.
“The state brought an application for the reconsideration of the accused’s release on warning and for bail to be imposed in the interests of justice,” he said.
The court granted Mudzinganyama bail of R15,000 on condition he reports to his local police station weekly, hands over his passport, remains in Gauteng and avoids contact with witnesses and Vlamo Restaurant staff.
The matter was postponed to October 16 for transfer to the regional court.
