Hisense cellphone winner’s year of good fortune
Odette Mashinini used to worry that she was not effective in her job without a functional cellphone.
The intern social worker saw the Sowetan Hisense competition on our WhatsApp platform and knew she had to try her luck to win the Infinity F72 smartphone.
Worth R1,999, the handset comes with 128GB storage, a strong 5000mAh battery and a high-definition camera.
For the past three weeks Sowetan has been running this competition to help one of our readers who needs a cellphone.
The competition closed on September 25, and a judging panel chose Mashinini as the lucky winner.
There is no more deserving winner than Mashinini, 34, who made a career breakthrough this year with her new position at the Mpumalanga social development department.
It seems the tide is now turning for our winner, who said she had been looking for a job since 2023.
“I am so happy to win this phone. I have been using this old phone that I have had for five years, and it started giving me problems. I often do not hear what people are saying on the other end of the line. The screen often goes white before it becomes totally blank, and this is why I entered the competition. This new phone will help me do my job much easier,” she said.
Gone are the days when Mashinini used to wait to go to the office the next day to use the landline to liaise with her clients. Her job often requires desperate families reaching out to her after work hours when they are in a crisis.
She is happy that she will now be able to communicate better with them.
Mashinini was one of more than 2,000 readers who entered our Hisense give-away competition, with only 400 of the entries complying with all the rules of the competition.
All Mashinini had to do was prove that she was following the Sowetan WhatsApp news channel and also “like” our competition post.
