Time For Radiopane To Be Pirates’ Main Man?

There’s no better time for Boitumelo Radiopane to raise his hand and become Orlando Pirates’ main man upfront than the current moment.
Think about it. This is the time, and here’s why. Yanela Mbuthuma is struggling to find the back of the net and new signing Sebastian Pedersen is finding his feet. Evidence Makgopa has been out nursing an injury, so Pirates are in need of a goalscorer. They need someone who can step up and take the responsibility of leading the line as a number nine.
For a while, Radiopane was simply not cracking it at the Buccaneers. Injuries hampered his progress, and there were times he could not find his feet as a first-team player despite showing immense promise during his days in the DStv Diski Challenge.
However, his performance against Sekhukhune United on Tuesday night may well prove to be the turning point. The striker calmly slotted home the opening goal against Babina Noko before setting up Oswin Appollis for Pirates’ second goal of the evening — a contribution that should give the Sea Robbers faithful reason to believe his time has finally come.
In modern football, a striker’s job extends beyond merely scoring. It means being a key part of the attack, providing assists and pressing the opposition when out of possession. Radiopane has shown he is capable of fulfilling all of these demands, offering Pirates a well-rounded option at the tip of their attack.
With more game time, the striker will gain confidence and potentially play a big role for the Soweto giants both domestically and on the continent. If his showing against Sekhukhune is a sign of things to come, Pirates may just have found their man.
