The trial of the deputy principal accused of forcing young girls into prostitution, Vuyokazi Gana, will start on Wednesday in the Regional Court at KuGompo City in the Eastern Cape.

The 52-year-old is facing multiple counts of human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and operating an illegal brothel.

She was arrested in October last year and has since remained in custody following a number of failed attempts to be granted bail.

Her legal representative, Yandiswa Sonamzi, says the trial will allow for her to prove her innocence.

“Mrs Gana has waited for months for her day to come in court. She wants this matter to be heard and its urgent for her because she is in custody and she wants her day to come so that she may be able to defend herself.”
