Suspect Injured During Arrest Following Attack On Mother: Ethekweni – KZN
A thirty four (34) year old man sustained injuries while attempting to evade arrest after allegedly threatening his elderly mother with a knife and intimidating family members earlier today (Monday).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Officers tracked the suspect to a stream in Grangetown after he fled from Dawncrest, where he had allegedly attempted to stab his 64 year old mother during a dispute. It was further established that he had intimidated his sister-in-law and her four (4) year old child before fleeing the area.
At approximately 13:28, Reaction Officers received information that the suspect was attempting to gain entry onto a residential property in the vicinity of the stream. Officers converged on the location and identified the male.
The suspect appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance and removed portions of his clothing (image 3) while being pursued. Following a foot chase through difficult terrain, Officers forcefully restrained the man after he resisted arrest and allegedly attempted to bite two (2) Officers.
The suspect sustained injuries during his attempt to escape and was subsequently detained.
He was handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) and transported to the Verulam Police Station in Kwazulu Natal.
