South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared that the country is in a state of national crisis regarding the violence against women, following a wave of public outrage and protests.

We have established 92 dedicated sexual offences courts across the country to ensure that cases are handled with the necessary sensitivity and speed.

Ramaphosa has promised a series of urgent measures, including the establishment of 11 new courts, a comprehensive review of cold cases, and the implementation of harsher penalties for perpetrators of gender-based violence.

The President acknowledged the deep-seated frustration of citizens and emphasized that the government is committed to addressing the systemic failures that have allowed this violence to persist.
