President Cyril Ramaphosa committed to subjecting himself to an impeachment process and said that he is not above the law.

On Friday, the Constitutional Court handed down a ruling directing parliament to establish an impeachment committee looking into Ramaphosa’s fitness to hold office.

The court also dismissed the December 2022 parliamentary vote where the ANC used its majority in the house to reject the adoption of a Section 89 panel report.

That report made damning findings against Ramaphosa, saying that he may have violated his oath office and breached the prevention and combatting of corrupt activities act.

Presidency Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said “President Cyril Ramaphosa respects the Constitutional Curt’s judgment and re-affirms his commitment to the constitution, the Independence of the judiciary and the rule of law. President Ramaphosa has been consistent in providing his full assistance to the various inquiries into this matter. President Ramaphosa maintains no person is above the law and any allegations should be subjected to due process without fear, favour or prejudice.”
