Ramaphosa: Abuse, rape and killing of women not our heritage
President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared that the abuse, rape, and killing of women in South Africa is not part of the country’s heritage. Speaking out against the ongoing scourge of gender-based violence, the President emphasized that such acts are fundamentally at odds with the values and history of the nation.
The abuse, rape and killing of women is not our heritage. It is a stain on our national conscience and a betrayal of the values for which so many fought and died.
The President’s remarks come amidst a period of national reflection on the safety of women and the urgent need for systemic change. He called upon all citizens, particularly men, to take an active role in dismantling the culture of violence that continues to plague communities across the country.
Ramaphosa reiterated that the government remains committed to implementing stricter measures to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice and that victims receive the necessary support. He stressed that the fight against gender-based violence is a collective responsibility that requires the participation of every sector of society.
