President Cyril Ramaphosa has used his Heritage Day address to condemn the abuse, rape and killing of women in South Africa, stating that these acts do not form part of the country’s heritage.

The abuse, the rape and the killing of women is not our heritage. It is a stain on our national conscience.

Speaking at the Bongolethu Sports Stadium in Oudtshoorn, the President emphasized that the nation must reject violence against women and children as it contradicts the values of a free and democratic society.

He called on all South Africans to take a stand against gender-based violence and femicide, urging men in particular to play an active role in ending the scourge.
