Parliamentary decorum at stake: ANC criticises EFF leader Julius Malema
The African National Congress (ANC) Parliamentary Caucus has expressed strong condemnation regarding the conduct of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema during recent virtual proceedings of the Section 89 Impeachment Committee.
According to the ANC, Mr. Malema engaged in an unwarranted verbal attack against ANC Member of Parliament Cameron Dugmore. The incident occurred after Mr. Dugmore requested that Mr. Malema adhere to parliamentary rules and maintain appropriate decorum while addressing other members.
Such inflammatory and personal insults were entirely unwarranted and fell far short of the standards of conduct and parliamentary decorum expected of Members of Parliament.
The ANC caucus stated that the confrontation began when Mr. Dugmore noted his history of participating in the anti-apartheid struggle, a comment that preceded Mr. Malema’s aggressive response. The ANC maintains that such behavior is unacceptable within the legislative environment.
