Mamelodi Sundowns have officially confirmed the departure of 22-year-old Bafana Bafana star Thapelo Maseko to Danish Superliga giants FC Copenhagen.

The speedster moves to Denmark in a permanent deal reported to be worth around R28 million (€1.5 million) after finalising a three-year contract that keeps him in the Danish capital until 2029.

Maseko initially joined the Brazilians in July 2023 from cross-town rivals SuperSport United but struggled for consistent game time under head coach Miguel Cardoso, managing 45 appearances and scoring three goals before his recent loan spell at Cypriot side AEL Limassol.

His high-profile exit from Chloorkop comes off the back of an impressive 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with Bafana Bafana in North America.

Maseko wrote his name into South African football folklore during the global showpiece, scoring the decisive solitary goal in a historic 1-0 victory over South Korea to guide the national team to the knockout stages for the very first time.
