Ngizwe Mchunu confirms Bhinca festival cancellation claims amid EFF clash

Media personality Ngizwe Mchunu has addressed the recent tensions in Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal, confirming the cancellation of his planned Bhinca Heritage and Maskandi Festival following a violent confrontation with Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporters.

The situation became untenable, and for the safety of the attendees and the community, we have decided to call off the event.

The clash occurred while Mchunu and his team were preparing the venue at the Dube Village Sports Field. According to reports, the confrontation escalated when EFF members, who were preparing for their own provincial manifesto launch at the nearby JL Dube Stadium, challenged the presence of Mchunu’s event.

Mchunu alleged that his security team was forced to discharge a firearm into the air after identifying that some individuals within the opposing group were armed. The incident has since led to police intervention and the opening of a criminal case by the EFF regarding the alleged shooting.

The cancellation marks a significant escalation in the rivalry between the two parties, as both groups had initially intended to host major events in the same vicinity on the same weekend.
