Buccaneers coach Abdeslam Ouaddou brought Deon Hotto and Ghampani Lungu back into the starting line-up after Friday’s big win over African Stars in the CAF Champions League, while Oswin Appollis was back in the squad but was only named on the bench.

The Soweto giants made their dominant start count after 15 minutes when Thapelo Mokobodi opened the scoring with his second goal in two games for the club by latching onto a through-ball and calmly slotting past goalkeeper Siphamandla Hleza.

It took a while for the top-flight debutants to stamp their mark on the encounter, as Ouaddou’s charges dominated possession as the first half went on, although they had to wait until the 23rd minute for their next opening at goal when Hleza was called upon to keep out Thalente Mbatha’s effort.

However, Pirates got their second goal ten minutes later when Tshepang Moremi bagged his sixth goal of the campaign by rounding the goalkeeper and firing in from a tight angle, as Milford had no response for the defending champions.

There was enough time for the Buccaneers to bag a third goal before the half-time break as the lively Moremi found the back of the net once again to complete his brace.

Milford responded with a quadruple change at the start of the second half, as coach Xanti Pupuma threw on Thabana Mabena, Mnqobi Mbhele, Sicelo Masilela and Vusumuzi Mthabela with the hope of improving on their disappointing first-half display.

The young Mpho Padime, who replaced Lungu in the first half, saw a lot of the ball in the second half as he looked to increase the tally with a couple of efforts at goal; however, his efforts did not seriously trouble Hleza.

Ouaddou had one eye on the weekend’s Soweto Derby, as he made a double change with 25 minutes to play as Bulelani Sigomoshe and the influential Moremi came off, with Camren Densin and Mohau Nkota thrown on to see out the encounter.
