A 29-year-old well-known KZN e-hailing driver and businessman, Sbonelo “Vacca” Ngema is expected to be laid to rest on Saturday.
Ngema was shot dead outside his residence in the early hours of Friday, 25 September while returning from work in Buffelsdraai, KZN.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), Ngema was shot and killed during a robbery.
Ngema’s girlfriend and his friend were reportedly mugged by unknown armed men, who assaulted them while demanding cash.
Ngema’s girlfriend informed the suspects that there was a safe containing money at her boyfriend’s residence.
The perpetrators proceeded to the property, forced open a burglar guard and gained entry.
They removed a safe reportedly containing an undisclosed amount of cash and a licensed firearm belonging to Ngema, who was at work at the time.
The girlfriend was also forced to unlock her cellphone and access her banking application, the suspects checked her balance before transferring R10 000 from her account.
As the suspects were leaving, they encountered Ngema arriving home from work.
They confronted him at the gate, shot him once in the face and fled in his vehicle. He died at the scene, no arrest has been made so far.
A vigil is set to be held on Buffelsdraai Road in Verulam on Friday night.
The funeral service will be held at uMgababa Sports Field on Saturday.
