Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says the party wants to make electricity more affordable for South Africans.

Some people in Heilbron in the Free State raised their issues and concerns during the community meeting in Metsimaholo yesterday. Malema addressed party supporters during an election campaign rally in Heilbron, where he also said it was crucial to link South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) grant databases directly to municipal systems to automatically classify social grant beneficiaries as indigent.

We want to give electricity that’s affordable not cheap.

Malema said this alignment would make it easier for struggling households to access the support they are entitled to without navigating multiple bureaucratic processes. The rally in Heilbron formed part of the EFF’s broader campaigning activity in the Free State ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
