Five suspects arrested on the N14 after a tip-off for

A Crime Intelligence tip-off has resulted in the arrest of five African male suspects in Muldersdrift, Gauteng, on Thursday, 06 August 2026, following an interprovincial operation involving law enforcement structures in Gauteng and the North West Province. Acting on a #TipOff, the police traced and intercepted the suspects while they were travelling in a Toyota Urban Cruiser on the N14 Road. The five suspects were subsequently arrested for possession of an unlawful firearm and ammunition.

The operation forms part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged hijacking that was reported in Potchefstroom, North West, on Tuesday, 04 August 2026. A pistol recovered from the suspects was positively identified as the same firearm robbed from a victim during the Potchefstroom hijacking of a Toyota Hilux, linking the suspects apprehended in Muldersdrift to the earlier hijacking in Potchefstroom.

Police seized the pistol, several rounds of ammunition, reflective vests, cellphones and a Toyota Urban Cruiser believed to be utilized during the commission of the crime.

Interprovincial collaboration by the SAPS North West Crime Intelligence Provincial Overt Team, Gauteng Tactical Response Team (TRT), Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, CAP Specialised Operations, Tracker Connect, and Klerksdorp Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU), led to this success.

The five African male suspects, aged between 42 and 54, are expected to appear before the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, where they will face charges relating to the unlawful possession of a firearm and matters arising from the ongoing hijacking investigation.

Furthermore, linking the suspects to other crimes in both provinces cannot be ruled out. #GunsOffTheStreets
