EFF hits back at AfriForum over Malema’s crimen injuria prosecution
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have responded to the news that their leader, Julius Malema, is set to face criminal prosecution for crimen injuria following a campaign by AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit.
The case stems from remarks made by Malema regarding a school principal, whom he publicly accused of rape. AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit successfully convinced the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) that there were sufficient grounds to pursue the matter in court.
The EFF and Malema know exactly what the court order stipulates and have spent years unsuccessfully trying to overturn it. They are now wilfully ignoring the order, and AfriForum will ensure that they face the consequences of their actions.
The EFF has characterized the move as a politically motivated attempt to silence their leader and undermine the party’s influence. They maintain that Malema’s comments were made in the context of public interest and advocacy for victims.
This development marks another chapter in the ongoing legal battles between the EFF and the lobby group, which has frequently utilized private prosecution to challenge the party’s leadership on various legal fronts.
