EFF defends Malema as AfriForum pushes ahead with crimen injuria prosecution
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have come out in strong defense of their leader, Julius Malema, as the civil rights organization AfriForum continues its efforts to prosecute him on charges of crimen injuria.
The EFF maintains that these legal actions are part of a broader, politically motivated campaign by AfriForum to silence and intimidate the leadership of the party.
The charges stem from remarks made by Malema regarding an Eastern Cape school principal, whom he publicly accused of rape. AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit has successfully engaged with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to move forward with the case, arguing that the accusations were false and defamatory.
AfriForum has consistently positioned itself as a watchdog against what it terms the abuse of power by political figures, asserting that no individual, regardless of their political standing, should be exempt from the consequences of their public statements.
As the legal proceedings progress, the EFF remains defiant, framing the prosecution as an attack on the party’s political agenda and its commitment to challenging the status quo in South Africa.
