EFF defends Malema as AfriForum pushes ahead with crimen injuria prosecution
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have come out in strong defence of their leader, Julius Malema, as civil rights organisation AfriForum continues its legal pursuit against him on charges of crimen injuria.
The legal battle, which has been ongoing for some time, centres on remarks made by Malema that AfriForum alleges constitute the unlawful and intentional impairment of the dignity of others. The organisation has been persistent in its efforts to hold the EFF leader accountable through the courts.
The EFF and Malema know exactly what the court order stipulates and have spent years unsuccessfully trying to overturn it. They are now wilfully ignoring the order, and AfriForum will ensure that they face the consequences of their actions.
In response to the latest developments, the EFF has maintained that the charges are politically motivated and part of a broader campaign by AfriForum to undermine the party and its leadership. The party has vowed to continue its political activities despite the legal pressure.
AfriForum, however, maintains that its actions are strictly about upholding the rule of law and ensuring that no individual, regardless of their political standing, is above the law. The organisation has previously successfully secured court orders against the EFF regarding land occupation, and they are now applying that same rigour to the crimen injuria case.
