The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced that it will vote against the EFF’s motion of no confidence in National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza because her removal would be “premature.”

The vote was scheduled for Wednesday, 26 August from 14:00.

The EFF has written to the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Annelie Lotriet, to formally table a Motion of No Confidence in the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Thoko Didiza. With both the ANC and DA set to vote against the motion, the EFF’s bid to remove Didiza is unlikely to succeed. The two largest government of national unity (GNU) parties hold a 61.5 percent majority in Parliament, which means the EFF is unlikely to win the simple majority required to remove her from office.
