Cyril Ramaphosa unveils 4-point plan to tackle gender-based violence
President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced a four-point plan in response to the spate of killings and violence against women in the country.
The President announced new measures Tuesday to combat gender-based violence following the killing of at least 11 women in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg, since July.
Ramaphosa also ordered police and the National Prosecuting Authority to review within 90 days unresolved cases involving murders, attempted murders, rapes and other gender-based violence cases, he said in a televised national address on Tuesday.
This cannot be accepted as a normal part of our society.
The plan includes immediate measures to fix streetlights, restrict alcohol access, and increase policing to address the rising violence.
