Inacio Miguel has stressed how key having wins on the board has been for Kaizer Chiefs as they get on with the league business under Fernando da Cruz.

Chiefs have moved top of the standings early in the season giving hope of further improvements on what was planted by Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef last term.

Two games may account for only 7% of the season but all points in the bag will count and Miguel acknowledges that showing intention is vital for confidence growth.

“It is very early but I think it is also important to start with the right foot,” says Miguel.

“Beginning with wins is not the same as beginning with losses or draws.

“[Starting positively] is important to give confidence to the players and the supporters.

“Obviously, we can’t be like ‘It is okay, we achieved’.

“As I said, it is a long journey, and we understand that having a young squad it’s important working over wins and not bad results or results that get you thinking about ‘we will have the same season again like we did in the past seasons when we didn’t have such a great journey’.

“So, starting with the right foot is important to give that moral and that confidence.

“We have a lot to achieve this season, so it is important to start with the right foot,” says Miguel.

Chiefs have Sundowns next on Saturday at FNB Stadium (15h30).
