Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Dillon Sheppard rued a missed penalty and a string of wasted chances as Amakhosi were held to a goalless draw by Golden Arrows at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to the media after the match, the former DDC coach remained positive and highlighted the fact that Amakhosi do create chances, and they just need to work on converting those into goals that Amakhosi are creating chances and simply need to convert them into goals.

“I think a fair result, but I think we deserved to win it if you look at the base of the chances. I think we’re going into the final third. The final third is what actually happens in the opposition box. Our creativity has been good, it’s just a matter of sticking our chances away. The good thing is that we’re creating chances, which is very, very positive. And then we’ve just got to carry on with that,” Sheppard told the media.
Regarding Lebohang Maboe’s injury, Sheppard said that they will wait for the doctor’s report on how serious the injury is to determine its severity.
“Obviously the doctors will examine him. You know, for Lebo to go down, you know that he was in pain. But hopefully it’s just a slight ankle sprain and he’ll be ready for the national team.”
Meanwhile, Sheppard applauded goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner, who made his Chiefs debut after signing from Sekhukhune United and kept a clean sheet.
“Very good. His leadership at the back, a couple of crucial saves to keep us in the game, very good. And you know, that’s why we have a squad. You know, when players get injured and other players step in, they take their chance. So, very happy for him. He’s come in with a lot of confidence and, as you saw, we kept a clean sheet today. So, it’s very good for him,” Sheppard told journalists.
This was coach Fernando Da Cruz’s team’s fourth draw in seven league matches so far this season, as they sit fourth in the Betway Premiership log standings. The Naturena-based side will be looking for improvements during the FIFA break before they host Stellenbosch FC at FNB Stadium on 17 October.
