Cardoso: My only appeal to PSL, SAFA

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has sent a plea to the PSL, SAFA and stakeholders in the country following their win over Al Ahli Saudi in the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup.

Sundowns progressed to the third round of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, the Challenger Cup, after knocking out the Saudi Pro League outfit with a 2-1 win on Saturday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

The Brazilians, as a result, will have a crammed fixture schedule in the coming months, as they will begin the defence of their CAF Champions League title with an away trip to Angolan club Wiliete Sport Clube on 17 October just after the MTN8 final, in the second qualifying round.

Masandawana will be up against Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 final on 10 October and amidst the Betway Premiership schedule, the Tshwane giants also have another international match, the CAF Super Cup against USM Alger, slated for 8 November.

“All matches will be tough, there’s a long month ahead of us, two months, not only the MTN8 final but also the qualification for the CAF Champions League group stages, whew, it will be a tough one, the draw was not really friendly,” Cardoso opened up on the prospect of a tough fixture schedule, speaking to journalists at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

“And then we also have the (CAF) Super Cup to play and in the middle of that we have to pace ourselves in the championship the best way we can. So, a lot of challenges, there will be matches that will have to be rescheduled obviously, considering that we’re going into the next stage of the Intercontinental Cup.

“So, my only appeal is obviously that we come together, club, SAFA, PSL, the responsible people (and) understand where we’re competing, the way we’re putting the name of the country and the continent at the highest level, so we can obviously find the best possibilities for us to be able to perform on the different levels and nothing more than that,” the Portuguese coach cautioned.
