Breaking: Pres. Ramaphosa On The Verge of Impeachment as new
Chairperson of the Section 89 Committee, Makashule Gana, hoped to convene the next meeting before the house goes into recess at the end of the month.
Tuesday, Parliament’s Rules Committee is set to adopt rules that will guide the process, after a sub-committee last week finalised a proposal for consideration.
At its next meeting, the impeachment committee is expected to discuss the appointment of a chief evidence leader and an assistant, who have to be legal professionals.
They will have to prepare witness statements from everyone who is expected to testify before the committee.
The President will also be permitted to appoint a legal representative of his choosing.
On Monday, he said the next meeting of the committee is expected to deal with its terms of reference.
” Everything will be done in public. So, you will be able to see the process that we are going to embark on when we appoint the evidence leaders. It will not be something that will be done behind closed doors.”
If the proposed rules are approved by the Rules Committee on Tuesday, it’s expected that the final document will be put before the National Assembly for adoption by the end of this week.
