ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa promises jobs for South Africans of all ages; citizens question the pledge
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has made a significant pledge to create thousands of new jobs across the country, targeting citizens of all ages in an effort to combat the nation’s persistent unemployment crisis. The announcement comes as the ruling African National Congress (ANC) seeks to bolster its support ahead of upcoming elections.
With our abundance of solar, wind and mineral resources, we are going to create thousands of jobs in renewable energy, green hydrogen, green steel, electric vehicles and other green products.
Despite the ambitious nature of the promise, many South African citizens have expressed skepticism. Critics point to the country’s long-standing struggles with energy instability, corruption, and slow economic growth as reasons to doubt that these new employment targets will be met. While the government highlights its history of social support and economic empowerment, the public remains focused on the immediate need for tangible results in the labor market.
