ANC Gauteng Provincial Spokesperson Mzikayifane “Mzi” Khumalo has died at the age of 54.

The ANC says Khumalo died in hospital this morning, surrounded by family and friends.

He had a long political and public-service career, serving in local government, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, and the provincial executive.

Following the 2024 elections, he remained a member of the provincial legislature and later chaired the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

He also served as the ANC’s Gauteng Provincial Spokesperson.

The party has described his death as a painful loss to the organisation and the people of Gauteng, and has conveyed its condolences to the Khumalo family.
