Orlando Pirates winger Tshepang Moremi has had his say on the club’s disappointing stumble early in the campaign, possibly giving Kaizer Chiefs or Mamelodi Sundowns a chance to widen the gap on the Betway Premiership table.

In conversation with the club’s media, the prolific attacker played down the hype, stressing that the season is still young and the road ahead is anyone’s guess.

The Buccaneers’ title credentials suffered a premature blow after being held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Usuthu at the same Hollywoodbets Kings Park Stadium in Durban on Wednesday night.

It was Moremi himself who opened the scoring early on against his former employers before Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya’s clinical penalty late in the first half ensured both sides shared the spoils.

This costly result has handed an early dent to their bitter bid to defend their league title, leaving the door wide open for fierce rivals Mamelodi Sundowns or Kaizer Chiefs to capitalise and pull ahead come Saturday.

However, Moremi insists it’s far too early to ring the alarm bells with only two matches played so far and warned that the future is unpredictable.

“We knew the game wasn’t going to be easy, but we didn’t have to put ourselves under pressure because the league had only just started.

“This was just the beginning, and we didn’t know what the future held for us. What mattered was that we didn’t give up.”

“We had to keep working hard, and the love that existed within the team had to remain. We needed to continue supporting one another going forward.”

“I felt happy because I knew I was going to score at some point. Durban loves me, and this is where I had scored a lot of goals. I believed that getting a point would help us going forward.”
