Kaizer Chiefs will host Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB Stadium on Saturday in a highly anticipated Betway Premiership encounter, and Amakhosi defender Thabiso Monyane believes his side has what it takes to get one over the Tshwane giants.

Speaking to the media at Naturena on Thursday, the former Orlando Pirates defender revealed that Chiefs have identified areas where Sundowns can be exposed, while also pointing to the steady progress the team has made since last season.

Monyane drew confidence from Chiefs’ two draws against Sundowns last season, suggesting the gap between the two sides has narrowed further. “Coming in from last season, look, we drew with Sundowns twice. All I can say is that there is improvement, and we know their strengths, we know their weaknesses and we look to keep up on that,” Monyane told the media.

The 26-year-old’s remarks suggest that the Naturena-based outfit have done their homework and are not approaching the fixture with any sense of inferiority, despite Sundowns’ dominance in South African football in recent years.

Monyane also took the opportunity to urge the club’s passionate supporters to turn out in force for what he described as a massive clash.

“It’s a very interesting game, a very big clash. Look, I urge supporters of Kaizer Chiefs to come out in their numbers and support us. They really mean a lot to us, you know, they push us and give us that match-winning spirit. Look, we want them to come out in their numbers and support us,” Monyane pleaded.

Amakhosi come into the fixture in strong form, having collected maximum points from their two opening league games of the season. That perfect start will give them confidence as they look to lay down an early marker against the reigning league champions on Saturday.
